    🌟Why Make This Recipe?

    • Vegan and Dairy free: This delicious green apple smoothie is vegan and dairy free.
    • Kids Friendly: There are many green apple smoothies out there but my kids never liked them because of their bitter taste. I just skipped the spinach and added the pineapple for sweetness. This not only enhanced the sweet flavor but also my kids simply love it.
    • Easy and Quick to Make: it is so quick and easy to make and will be ready in 5 minutes.
    • Nutrient-rich: green apples are an excellent source of vitamin A and vitamin C and they are high in fiber content. They increase your metabolism and eating a green apple every day can strengthen your bones and teeth as they are high in calcium content.
    • Fulfilling and Delicious Breakfast: This green apple smoothie recipe is not only delicious in taste but also rich in fiber content making it rich and fulfilling for a healthy breakfast.

What Kind of Green Apples are Good for Smoothies?

It depends on your preference if you prefer a sweeter taste in your smoothie go for Newtown pippin, pound sweet, or Crispin apple. But if you want a hint of tart in your smoothie, get the granny smith, Rhode Island, or shamrock apple.

Pale green apples are usually sweeter in taste and fresh green color apples are tart. My Personal favorite is Newtown Pippin Apple. It has a smooth peel that is great for smoothies. They are true green in color when freshly picked, but mature to a greenish yellow tone as the apple becomes sweeter in storage.

    📋 Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

Here are the ingredients you need to make this recipe. Reference the recipe card at the bottom for exact measurements.

ingredients to make green apple smoothie.

Green Apples: you can use any green apple from Granny Smith, Rhode Island Greening, and Newtown Pippin, to Shamrock, Smeralda, and Crispin depending on how tart or sweet you want your smoothie to be.

Chia Seeds: is an excellent nutrient-rich ingredient and adding them to any smoothie will make it more fulfilling and richer. You can substitute it with poppy seeds or a flax meal. They are completely optional and if your kids don’t like its texture, you can simply skip it or add half in quantity.

Liquid: I am using almond milk as a liquid in this recipe for easy blending and a smooth texture. You can also use coconut water, oat milk, coconut yogurt, pineapple juice, or even water.

    🔪 Instructions

To make this delicious green apple smoothie wash and dry the apples. I would suggest leaving the peel on as they are rich in fiber.

Stand the apple on its base and cut it straight down along the core of the apple. Cut from other sides keeping the knife as near the core as possible.

Discard the core and cut the bigger pieces of apple into small about 1-inch chunks. That is a must for easy blending.

Add apple chunks, frozen banana, pineapple chunks (frozen or fresh), and chia seeds to your blender.

Next, add some liquid for easy blending. In this recipe, I am using almond milk.

There is no need for ice if you are using frozen banana and frozen pineapple chunks. But if you want, add a handful of ice cubes to make the smoothie extra thick and fluffy.

Blend until smooth and serve cold.

    👩‍🍳 Expert Tips

    1. Soak your apples in water and baking soda solution for 15 minutes. Rub with a brush and rinse with clean warm water. Leave and dry with a kitchen towel.
    2. If you do not have a high-speed blender, you can always peel your apples.
    3. If you do not have everyone’s favorite blender for making your smoothie you can always invest in a smoothie maker. I found it so handy easy to clean and so good for blending. It is super affordable and works great.
    4. If your smoothie is still a bit tart and you want to add some sweetness add dates, maple syrup, or vegan honey.
    5. To make it creamier add a tablespoon of almond butter or peanut butter.
    6. To make ahead simply freeze all ingredients in a zip lock bag. When needed leave on the shelf for 5 to 10 minutes and blend. These frozen smoothie bags can last up to six months.
    7. When blended serve immediately.

    💭 Recipe FAQs

Do you have to peel an apple for a smoothie?

Apples can be blended in the smoothies and I always wash and dry the apples to make my smoothies. Apple peel is rich in fiber, vitamins, and other nutrients. Just make sure to use organic apples for smoothies or clean them properly from all the dirt and pesticides.

Should I put chia seeds in my smoothie?

Chia seed is considered a superfood as it is loaded with healthy nutrients. Putting them in a smoothie is always a great way to get a nutrient-rich breakfast. They will make your smoothie more fulfilling and richer. If you don’t like its texture, you can grind the chia seeds in a coffee grinder.

Are chia seeds still effective when blended?

Yes, chia seeds become more digestible when blended. This way body will more easily absorb all nutrients from this superfood.

How do you make a bitter smoothie sweet?

You can add some dates, figs, or natural sweeteners like maple syrup or even pineapple juice to make your smoothie sweet.
