Vegan and vegetarian options at Chick-fil-A stand out compared to many other fast-food chains, mainly because of their flexible menu customization policy. You can easily skip meat and dairy while still enjoying fresh, flavorful meals.

Fast-food chains vary in vegan choices. Burger King offers the Impossible Whopper, while McDonald’s and Sonic mostly stick to sides. Chick-fil-A does a bit better with customizable salads and sides, though still no true plant-based entrée.

Below is a clear list of all the vegan and vegetarian options at Chick-fil-A, plus a few extras you can customize to fit your taste.

    Vegan Options at Chick-fil-A

    • Fruit Cup
    • Hash Browns
    • Waffle Potato Fries
    • Waffle Chips
    • Plain English Muffin
    • Buddy Fruits Applesauce
    • Kale Crunch Side

    Customizable Vegan Options

The best part is that Chick-fil-A officially allows recipe alterations, even on their website —so you can skip meat and dairy if you want. The only downside is you still pay the full price.

    • Side Salad: Ask to leave off the cheese and swap the avocado lime ranch dressing for one of the vegan options, like chili lime vinaigrette or light balsamic.
    • Market Salad: Ask to leave the chicken strips and blue cheese
    • Cobb Salad: Ask to skip nuggets, bacon, boiled eggs, and blue cheese. Choose a vegan salad dressing.
    • Spicy Southwest Salad: get it without spicy chicken breast and chees,e and tortilla strips, and choose a vegan dressing.
    • Grilled Cool Wrap (flax wrap): request no chicken, no cheese, and add a vegan vinaigrette dressing.

Personally, I love Chick-fil-A’s salads. Even without meat and cheese, they’re flavorful, filling, and pair well with the many vegan dressing choices. My top picks are the Market Salad and Spicy Southwest Salad. The Cobb Salad is less exciting after customization—you’re mostly left with mixed greens, grape tomatoes, roasted corn kernels, and a few toppings.

    Vegan Salad Dressings and Toppings

    • Chili Lime Vinaigrette
    • Light Balsamic Vinaigrette
    • Light Italian
    • Zesty Apple Cider Vinaigrette

    Toppings

    • Chili Lime Pepitas
    • Crispy Bell Peppers
    • Harvest Nut Granola
    • Roasted Nut Blend

Note: The classic Chick-fil-A sauce and Seasoned Tortilla Strips aren't vegan—they contain eggs and dairy.

    • Hash Brown Scramble Burrito without Meat
    • Hash Brown Scramble Bowl without Meat

    Vegetarian Drinks at Chick-fil-A

Vegetarians can enjoy all the vegan drinks mentioned above and a few more options.

    • 1% Chocolate Milk and Milk
    • Frosted Lemonade
    • Frosted Coffee
    • Milkshakes (Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Cookie, and Cream)

    What about the Cauliflower Sandwich?

The Chick-fil-A Cauliflower Sandwich came out in 2023 as their first plant-forward sandwich.

It used a thick cauliflower slice, marinated, breaded with their signature seasoning, and pressure-cooked. Served on a toasted bun with dill pickle chips, it looked like the classic chicken sandwich. But it wasn’t vegan or since the bun had dairy and eggs.

The sandwich was only tested in Denver, Charleston, and the Greensboro-Triad.

“Sadly, it never made it to Chick-fil-A’s nationwide menu.”

Overall, Chick-fil-A offers more vegan and vegetarian choices than many other fast-food chains, especially with their salads, sides, and flexible customizations. Still, they don’t have a true plant-based main meal yet.

Adding a few plant-based meat options—like a vegan chicken sandwich or wrap—would make a huge difference for people who want more filling, balanced meals instead of just sides. It’s time for Chick-fil-A to take that step forward.

All the above information is taken from the Chick-fil-A website and their Nutrition & Allergens guide. Restaurants often update their menus and ingredients, so if you notice any changes from what we’ve listed here, feel free to message us, and we’ll update the information.

There's no lard used in the biscuits? Is the Parmesan used in the mac and cheese made with animal rennet?

Yes. Chick-fil-A biscuits are vegetarian. They do not use lard. The biscuits are made with palm oil instead.

Their mac and cheese is a bit less clear. It contains Parmesan cheese. The ingredient list mentions enzymes, but it does not specifically say rennet.

In the United States, the word *enzymes* in commercial cheese often refers to **microbial enzymes** or **fermentation-produced chymosin (FPC)**. These are made from microorganisms like fungi or bacteria. They are commonly used instead of animal rennet. However, the term can sometimes include animal-derived enzymes as well.

I have asked Chick-fil-A about this several times, but I have not received a clear answer yet.

I also recently reviewed the vegetarian options listed on their website. At the moment, mac and cheese is not listed among their vegetarian items. Because of that, I will remove it from the vegetarian list for now. I will add it back if more reliable information becomes available.

        Thanks for your comment! 🙂
